Sendai Language School offers kids’ classes for kindergarteners up to six graders. The lessons are more like meeting the world through English than studying. Three courses are provided for kids, and the instructors are native speakers. From time to time Japanese staff can attend the lessons for support. Our courses give great opportunities for kids to get used to a native English speaker’s pronunciation. Feel free to contact us for more info.

■ KIDS 1 (for kindergarteners)

Simple nouns such as animals and family members are introduced at the beginning. Instructors play games and sing songs so that children can memorize those nouns with play. We use a textbook called “Young Children’s Picture Dictionary” by Longman. With the attached CD, you can review the textbook contents with your child at home.

■ KIDS 2 (for 1-3 graders)

We practice speaking in phrases after letting children listen and memorize. We use games and songs frequently in class so that kids keep busy and entertained in class. We also start teaching how to read/write the alphabet properly. We use “Young Children’s Picture’s Dictionary” and can also teach from Kids Eiken materials.

■ KIDS 3 (for 4-6 graders)

We practice with a goal to be able to have short Q & A conversations based on what the children have learned. The ideal goal for children is to be able to add to the conversation on their own, instead of just repeating. For the children who have just started learning, we introduce the alphabet and simple nouns.

In addition to the regular lessons at SLS, we also teach at three kindergartens from Sugawara gakuen group.

Another specialty at SLS is a course in which a Japanese instructor individually teaches fundamental subjects to students who are preparing for admission to higher schooling. The reason why students score lower than they are capable of is that they need more confidence in their abilities. Students with a low English score could improve not only in English, but also in other subjects. The instructor has years of experience in the United States as an exchange student. He teaches at each student’s own pace. This is possible because we use an individual teaching system. And for adults, we provide special TOEIC or Eiken courses.
